Metro Digital Transformation: Modern IT Solutions Discussed in Nizhny Novgorod

Nizhny Novgorod Metro hosted an in-person meeting of the IT and Fare Collection Systems Committee of the International Association "Metro," bringing together subway operators, industry experts, manufacturers, and developers to address key issues in the digital transformation of urban rail transit.

Meeting participants examined the role of IT in transport security, the protection of critical information infrastructure facilities, the growing impact and future applications of artificial intelligence, import substitution, and the expansion of modern digital services. Practical experience from the deployment of the Moscow Metro's new ticketing system received dedicated focus.

Aleksandr Dmitrenko, Head of Urban Rail Transit at the Natsproektstroy Signaling Division, presented a report titled "Application of AI Methods: From Technical Software Engineering to Traffic Management."

The presentation explored AI methodologies for train traffic management, including movement forecasting, automatic route setting, and conflict resolution. Dmitrenko also addressed the use of Large Language Models (LLMs) in engineering technical software and discussed prospects for deploying intelligent tools across various development stages.

"Applying artificial intelligence methodologies enables a shift from automating isolated functions to implementing more intelligent traffic management—forecasting operational scenarios, identifying potential conflicts, and selecting optimal solutions based on multiple variables. Artificial intelligence has also become an essential tool during software creation, reshaping development processes and boosting overall engineering efficiency," noted Dmitrenko.

The committee meeting served as an established platform for sharing operational experience and evaluating solutions for the ongoing evolution of urban rail digital infrastructure.
