How Artificial Intelligence Helps Build Tram Timetables
Alexander Dmitrenko, Head of Mass Transit Transport at NPS // 1520 Signal, spoke about this at the “Public Transport 2025” Forum.
Through digitalization, it becomes possible to increase speed and service frequency without purchasing additional rolling stock. Energy consumption is reduced as the tram no longer needs to constantly accelerate or brake when passing intersections.
“Our goal is to create safe, comfortable, and — most importantly — predictable mass transport for passengers. At present, more than half of Moscow’s tram turnouts are equipped with digital automation systems developed and manufactured by companies of Natsproektstroy. The implementation of such systems improves the safety and reliability of passenger services, while AI-based components enhance tram traffic management,” said Alexander Dmitrenko.
One of the most striking examples of digital technologies in rail transport is the country’s first autonomous tram, operating in Moscow on Route 10. All point machines along the route are equipped with innovative devices produced by NPS companies, providing the autonomous tram with digital infrastructure control without human intervention.
