Dmitry Bolotsky further specified that the project’s long-term goal is the large-scale implementation of these electric drives on Indian mainlines.

“We anticipate that following successful trial operations, our equipment will be widely adopted across India's expanding railway network. In international projects, we aim to build an ecosystem with local partners by establishing localized production,” stated Dmitry Bolotsky, Deputy General Director for Commerce at NPS.

The sleeper-mounted point machine is the latest development from NPS companies designed for heavy-haul lines. The design features an extended service life and reduced operating costs. NPS developers are adapting the Russian solution for the Indian 1,676 mm gauge (compared to the 1,520 mm gauge used in Russia) and for a hot climate, ensuring the drive operates reliably at temperatures up to +70°C.

Indian Railways is currently the fourth-largest national railway system in the world and is expected to double in size over the next 20 years. The Northern Railway is the largest zone in the network, with a total track length exceeding 6,800 km, covering states such as Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi, and Chandigarh.
