Balises

Balises are used to reset the error accumulated by the odometer of the locomotive and to define accurately the location of the train. They are also used to mark the boundaries of the radio block coverage zone when a train proceeds from a railway section equipped with other train control systems.

STRUCTURE

A technical device of wireless transmission (inductively) of the fixed telegram to the locomotive onboard security system, which contains the following basic data:

  • A unique number of the balise group;
  • The number of balises in the group;
  • Information determining the direction of the train traffic;
  • A unique number of the country or region where balises are installed;
  • Information on the radio network where the train is to be registered;
  • Information on the parameters of the connection with the radio block center.
A balise is a non-volatile device, installed on the path between the rails with fastening on the cross-sleepers. A group of reference sensors usually consists of two balises. The installation of balises on the route is made in places where the location of the train must be determined with high accuracy. Balises are set in accordance with the topology of stations and open lines and are programmed accordingly.
