DIGITAL EQUIPMENT OF THE SIGNALING DIVISION 1520 GC AT THE «NOVAYA» STATION OF «KARELSKY OKATYSH» IRON ORE PLANT
The beginning of the new year was marked for The Signaling Division 1520 GC with the implementation of another large-scale project in the industrial area. The «Novaya» station of the leading iron ore mining and processing plants (MMP) in Russia, «Karelsky Okatysh» JSC (a part of PJSC Severstal) commissioned an innovative computer-based interlocking system CBI-EL of Russian production with a new-generation safe relay controller RUVIO.

The «Novaya» operatorless railway station was launched in the open pit of «Karelsky Okatysh» a few years ago and became a part of the unified dispatcher control system. CBI-EL system with a domestic controller RUVIO, which has high speed, flexible modular structure and is easy to install, was set up within the project of implementation of cyclic-flow technology complex (CPT) and replaced CBI-PT system, which had been earlier launched at the «Novaya» station and was based on foreign components.
This helped «Karelsky Okatysh» JSC to bring the CPT project to pilot operation after foreign suppliers left Russia in 2022. The CPT project is of great importance for the development of the deposit and increasing the production of products required by the metallurgy industry. The launch of the CPT complex with the domestic computer-based interlocking system will reduce the cost of production, minimize the carbon footprint, because the new technology will allow the MMP to refuse from some heavy trucks - instead of haulers the crushed ore will be lifted to the surface by inclined belt conveyors. This will substantially reduce the carbon dioxide emissions.
Railroad infrastructure is one of the most important factors affecting the productivity and environmental friendliness of such enterprises.
We would like to thank everyone involved in the modernization of the plant!
Iron ore concentrate is an enriched iron ore raw material for smelting cast iron. It comes in the form of a fine powder and therefore completely unsuitable for transportation. At the beginning of the 20th century there was invented to pellet this powder in special huge drums in which the moistened ore concentrate was rotated and took a round shape. This is how pellets were obtained - hard, homogeneous balls of enriched iron ore raw materials. Thus, the problem with transportation and storage was solved.
