The 1520 Group of Companies is one of the biggest Russian production and construction holding companies, whose core business is design, construction and reconstruction of the railway infrastructure facilities of any complexity. The 1520 Signaling Division, which is a part of the 1520 Group of Companies, offers multiple turn-key services spanning the entire life cycle of the product that includes not only signaling systems but also the operation of related services in charge of traffic control, locomotives and rolling stocks, track maintenance, electrification and power supply in the following fields:

  • design;
  • system development, tests and certification;

  • manufacturing, contract assembly, localization;

  • equipment supply;

  • construction and assembly works;

  • capital repairs;

  • modernization of the railway track;

  • maintenance;

  • recycling.

The specialists of our company managed to develop and launch mass production of the computer-based interlocking of the CBI-EL point machines and signals that comprises more than 1400 innovative technical solutions. In contrast to currently applied CBI systems, it is the CBI-EL system where the KSPK-EL integrated cyber security system was applied for the first time (see its functional scheme in Picture 1):

The CBI-EL system allows controlling the stations with any track layout and is meant for control of point machines, signals, level crossings and adjacent open lines. The system can be easily adapted for any rail transport and has a number of advantages:

— a high level of productivity and reliability due to redundancy of essential nodes, i.a. the central processor unit (CPU);

— a modular structure that allows carrying out the reconfiguration of the station with minimal investments if there is a change in the track layout;

— more informative system for operational and maintenance staff (in comparison with relay electric interlocking) as a result of data backup during the system operation and diversified diagnostic and monitoring system for all the components of the CBI-EL system;

— considerable reduction of construction and assembly works as well as of equipment premises;

— the software is reliably secured against unauthorized penetrations;

— low cost of operational maintenance (electronic equipment falls under the category of restorable items and can be in operation down to the limit);

— low energy intensity.

The main components of the CBI-EL system are:

— CPU-EL on the basis of a Russian-made processor with operating system «Elbrus» (on the basis of OS Linux) that was developed and manufactured by a joint-stock company MCST;

— home-produced object controllers (OC) OK-EL and RUVIO;

— Local Control Supervisory System (LCSS) LCSS-EL with Russian-made operating system «Red OS Murom»;

— KSPK-EL;

— a power supply device UEP-U-M.

The main components are depicted in Picture 2:

The CBI—EL system is equipped with a considerable toolkit of built-in self-diagnostic functions. The control of the failure-free operation of the CBI—EL hardware and software is carried out by each subsystem by sending the required information to the Local Control Supervision System (LCSS) and monitoring system. The LCSS diagnostic system allows controlling the state of the processor memory and hard disk of a system block, as well as memory and processor time that is taken by different client programs and the CBI-EL system server. The status of the system servers and interconnections between them are controlled by the main and the redundant channels of data transfer.

Logic diagnostic of the state of LCSS and user accounts is provided, which includes: indications and warning messages («alarms») about a stuck key switch, invalid attempt to register personnel during the input of the private login account details, long working hours without users changing shifts.

Diagnostic of the CPU-EL components allows controlling:

— installed dependency packages on each half of the CPU;

— the volume of the installed memory, storage consumption, storage capacity, the percentage of used space of the hard disk, temperature and the speed of the cooling fans.

Abnormal states of these parameters are followed by audio and text alarms. All together these measures allow detecting potential pre-failure states and increase the overall reliability of the system.

The OC-EL, computing linkage lines and uninterruptible power supply (UPS) are provided with comprehensive diagnostic methods. The monitoring of power supply is also carried out in online mode. Failure and pre-failure conditions of the UPS are tracked by the system and corresponding alarms are sent to the LCSS. The maintenance personnel can always control such parameters as battery charge, temperature, load, input/output voltage of UPS, results of the last self-test, etc. (the overall list of controlled parameters can be adjusted as agreed upon with a customer). The exterior of the UPS diagnostic window is shown in Picture 3:

The software of the CBI-El is made in compliance with the technical regulations of the Customs Union TR CU 003/2011 and according to the safety integrity level SIL4 corresponds to international IEC 61508, EN 50126, EN 50128, EN 50129 standards.

The CBI-EL system is a flexible product that can be adapted for any railway transport. Within the frames of the product integration for the Moscow Metro, the Troparevo station was equipped with the CBI-EL system with CPU-EL on the basis of a Russian-made processor and the OC-EL object controllers. The DM TCC-M computer-based track circuits with ALS-ARS coding were also installed. The system provides 100% redundancy of the LCSS, CPU, OC and CBI-EL communication equipment, whilst the switch to the redundancy set of equipment is carried out automatically. A print screen of the station duty officer is shown in Picture 4:

Within the frames of the pilot project implementation on the Moscow Metro, the CBI-EL system proved to be able to operate in tough conditions with minimal train succession time and in accordance with all traffic safety regulations. As a result, the system is going to be implemented in the future during the reconstruction of the Circular Line of the Moscow Metro with the following source data:

— the total length, km — 19,4;

— the passenger traffic, thousand people per day — 540;

— the total number of stations — 12;

— the number of stations with the arrangement of tracks — 6;

— the number of points — 23;

— the number of track circuits — 295;

— the number of signals — 209.

Based on the CBI-EL system, a relay-based interlocking RBI-EL was developed and put in production. In August 2018 the system was successfully put in operation at the Solntsevo depot of the Moscow Metro (38 points) and in May 2019 at the Rudnevo depot (72 points). The print screen of the RBI-EL system is shown in Picture 5:

Being a developer and supplier of integrated innovative solutions in the traffic control field, the 1520 Division offers unified system solutions for all kinds of railway transport: mainlines (including very high-speed mainlines), industrial transport, city overground transport (including metro lines and sea ports).

The maintenance of our traffic safety systems is carried out throughout the entire life cycle. 24-hour customer support is available and there are 14 regional service centers in Russia, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan and Mongolia at customers’ disposal.

In 2018 for development of the signaling systems and creation of scientific and production facilities for development and operation of railway equipment for railway transport and consolidation of scientific, research, engineering and technical knowledge the process of plan implementation of the 1520 Integrated Engineering Center was launched. The center will lay the basis for the lifecycle maintenance of the developed systems that will include scientific, research and construction works, certification that the product complies with the established standards and standard process documentation, design, manufacturing, supply and maintenance of the systems, including post and wayside equipment.
