NPS and Gorelektrotrans to Jointly Develop Tram Network in Southern St. Petersburg
NPS Group and St. Petersburg’s Gorelektrotrans intend to jointly develop the tram network in the southern districts of St. Petersburg. The proposed routes will run along Sofiyskaya Street, the Southern Latitudinal Highway, and Volkhonskoye Highway, extending to the Yuzhny satellite city.
Dmitry Bolotsky, Deputy General Director for Commerce at NPS, and Konstantin Shostak, Acting Director of Gorelektrotrans, signed the corresponding agreement.
"NPS is actively involved in developing St. Petersburg's infrastructure. We are building the country’s first high-speed railway, the Bolshoy Smolensky Bridge, and subway facilities. Expanding tram routes will integrate new residential areas into the transport network and reduce traffic congestion," said Dmitry Bolotsky.
"In St. Petersburg's modern history, these are the first plans for new tram network construction on such a scale—four lines with a total length of at least 41 km. St. Petersburg is committed to developing modern, comfortable, fast, eco-friendly, and high-capacity urban transport. The tram is a hallmark of prosperous and comfortable cities. Experts at Gorelektrotrans are confident that our experience and the company's rich history will be vital for the successful implementation of this project," noted Konstantin Shostak.
In 2025, during the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), NPS, Sber, and the Government of St. Petersburg signed a cooperation agreement for the tram network development project. Total investment is estimated to exceed 130 billion rubles.
Over the past few years, NPS has delivered several major urban rail transport projects. In Moscow, the holding participated in the launch of four Moscow Central Diameters lines. Furthermore, digital signaling systems developed and manufactured by NPS companies are being actively implemented across Moscow’s metro and tram networks, including the route for the country's first driverless tram.
