A new laboratory has opened at the St. Petersburg State Transport University (PGUPS)

Students here will master the operation of the СBI-EL computer-based interlocking system, developed and manufactured by NPS companies.

The training complex simulates the operations of a railway station. An instructor uses a computer to model scenarios that personnel encounter daily at rail facilities. The students' task is to resolve these issues in conditions close to reality. For this purpose, the laboratory features the Local Control and Supervisory System for the LCSS operator, the Field Engineering Unit (FEU) for the FEU operator, and a workstation for the CTC operator.

The laboratory includes key system components: CPU, Object Controllers, telecommunications equipment, and lightning protection. Additionally, it features a Digital Track Circuit Monitoring Module, along with wayside equipment such as a point machine, a junction box, a transformer box, and a signal.

For the project's implementation, PGUPS Rector Oleg Valinsky presented a letter of appreciation to Pavel Kirnosov, General Director of ELTEZA (part of NPS). The opening ceremony was attended by Evgeny Shevtsov, Deputy General Director and Head of the Central Infrastructure Directorate of Russian Railways, along with university leadership.

The CBI-EL is the first Russian digital train control system. It enables the remote management of points and signals, route setting, parameter monitoring, and the identification of potential equipment failures. The system features built-in enhanced cyber security, which is vital for critical infrastructure assets.
